As a part of Starwood and whole world's awareness campaign for global warming Sheraton Dammam Hotel & Towers participated in the Earth Hour 2009 event on 28th March 2009. Associates were made awareness by posters and notice on board one week in advance. It was spoken to all associates during briefings. Mails were circulated internally. Earth Hour video was circulated through in-house mailing system to all associates and executives. Mr Abdullah Melhem, General Manager emphasized the importance of saving energy and reduce CO2 emissions to save the earth.
On the day of the event, Sheraton Dammam like many organizations across the world switched off exterior signage lighting; non-essential interior lighting; alternate basement corridor lighting; alternate pool external lighting; car parking area pole lighting from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm thereby taking extra energy-saving measures without compromising on the safety and security of guests and associates. Even in the associate / executive apartments, they stopped lights from 2030 till 2130 on the event day. With this kind of participation, Sheraton Dammam Hotel successfully casted its vote for Earth!
